Build Your Team, Find Your Line, and Push To Pass
Grand Hall
sponsored by SIM Indianapolis

Rhonda Winter
CIO
Indianapolis Motor Speedway

Rhonda’s discussion will focus on the importance of building a high performance team, finding the road map to drive that team’s day to day success and the delicate balance of when to push for acceleration to achieve optimum results. Teambuilding actually starts with establishing comfort for each individual team member in their own ‘4 square feet’ and pushing to pass results in winning only if the request is well placed in the journey and used with caution.

Storage Asset Optimization: A Model for Improved Business Efficiency and Bottom Line
Edison South
sponsored by Hitachi Data Systems

Mike Rubesch
Executive Director of Systems & Operations
Purdue University

There are many ways to measure how efficiently you are using your storage capacity. Cost per raw TB, per usable TB, percent allocated, active vs inactive, structured vs unstructured are some common ways to look at storage capacity. Is the way you "use" your storage capacity on auto-pilot? Do you wonder if there are any wasted resources yet you keep buying more? What about the data itself -- do you have any idea what percentage of your total capacity footprint is actually active and "in-use?” Would you be shocked if that number was 20% or lower? If you are purchasing physical capacity on a regular basis, does that growth rate concern you? There are many reasons why most IT environments would be considered "inefficient" when it comes to storage resources. This session is going to discuss what capacity efficiency problems exist today and what can be done to improve them.

Staff Motivation and Morale
Grand Hall
provided by CIO Executive Council

Paul Cottey
CIO
Accretive Health

As a leader in a rapidly growing and changing organization, it is our responsibility to be mindful of our team members’ motivation and morale levels. Although some efforts may prove to be unsuccessful, it is this trial and error process that will aid you in finding out what truly motivates those around you. In my time as the CIO of Accretive Health, I’ve come to the following conclusion: the little things make a big difference! The sum total of all the little things you do for your employees – whether it be a Happy Birthday email or a newsletter article highlighting an individual’s success - have a big effect on staff motivation and morale. The best part about these small actions is that you can implement them almost immediately - don't leave these points behind, but rather bring them to your organization today!

IT Strategic Planning is one of the highest impact activities IT leaders can undertake;  it can also be one of the most challenging.  Effective IT strategic planning provides both direction and focus, allowing your IT functions to perform at extremely high levels. In this session participants will learn the three levels of strategic planning, including "Quantum Leap Strategic Planning", the steps of effective strategic planning, how to overcome the 4 IT strategic planning myths identified in CIO magazine, and most importantly, what strategic planning is not.   In our fast moving business environment the pace of change is ever accelerating, the direction of change seems to be a moving target, and the economic landscape seems to change weekly.  There has never been a time when "Quantum Leap Strategic Planning" was needed more.

Mainframe Assassination – Eliminate to Streamline and Save Significant Dollars
Edison South

sponsored by Micro Focus

Jack Wilson
Assistant VP
Amerisure Mutual Insurance

For the past several years at Amerisure Insurance, “getting rid of the mainframe” was on the list of top IT objectives, but nothing was ever done to “move the ball forward”. Now that we streamlined our architecture through Strategic Virtualization, we turned our attention to this 900-pound gorilla” in our infrastructure. This session is perfect for you if you have a mainframe that you’ve talked about eliminating for years but just didn’t know where to begin or how to approach (it can be overwhelming). The beauty of this approach is that it keeps those critical applications that you need to support the business, but on a modern architecture at a much lower cost. You will now have the funds that you’ve saved to decide if you need to rewrite or replace the application without disrupting business functionality.

Hosted Virtual Desktop:  Use Case and Cost Model
Lincoln
sponsored by Bell Techlogix

Jospeph Indaino
Director, Networks & Systems
Butler University

Desktop virtualization is on most organization’s agenda today.   I.T. departments are looking for the same gains on the desktop that were found in the virtual server environment.  But the desktop model is different.  And based upon how the desktop will be used, the cost will vary.  These variances will force IT to look deeper at how they build, deploy and market virtual desktops to their customer.  This session will review a desktop virtualization pilot, the lessons learned in the cost and infrastructure to support it, and how a modeled approach will help apply the appropriate cost and technology to the different business needs.
