Ray Bender CIO Research Advisor & Author Is innovation is the new holy grail? It is difficult to find a technology or business publication without at least one article on innovation. Is this because there hasn’t been a big new technology hit in the last few years or is it people looking for the silver bullet that will solve all of their problems overnight? It may be all of the above, but is it that easy? This session will examine the conditions necessary in IT organizations to allow for creativity and innovation. We will discuss where to look for innovation and creativity and once it is found how to implement it successfully. Any change brought about by a new innovation will meet the cultural antibodies that will try to reject the change. We will discuss the cultural components of innovation and the leadership activities necessary to support innovation and over come resistance. |

| 2:30 pm | CIO Interactive Workshop | ||
| As CIO you have been given the responsibility of implementing a new sales automation system. While the technology is not that challenging you are finding that Niccolo Machiavelli had it right in 1517 when he said, “nothing is more dangerous to manage than the creation of a new order of things….” This task goes to the heart of IT alignment, IT ownership, support, and responsibilities. It will call on all of your skills to succeed. This workshop will be an interactive session utilizing the case method. It will be based on the Harvard Case, The IT System that couldn’t deliver. This workshop will give you an opportunity to work with your peers to address real life issues in the life of a CIO. You will be called on to present your ideas and solutions to meet the challenges. You will be able to share your experience with others and learn from their experiences. The workshop will be facilitated by Dr. Ray Bender. Ray has over 20 years of working with CIOs on their people and organizational issues. |
