Wendell Jones
IT Outsourcing and Management Professor

Wendell Jones is presently an IT outsourcing consultant and management professor. He has served previously as a practitioner in senior IT management positions for profit and not-for-profit organizations.
His senior management positions include Senior Vice President of Technology Services, National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD/NASDAQ Stock Market); Vice President Global Outsourcing Services, Compaq Computer Corporation; General Manager, McDonnell Douglas Information Services Company; and Chair of the Computer Science Faculty at West Point.
His education includes a post-doctoral fellowship in Computer Science at Cornell University, both a Ph.D. and MBA in business from the University of Georgia, and a BS in education from the University of Arkansas.
He is the author and co-author of a number of management and IT articles, and an IT outsourcing book published by Prentice Hall and recently issued in Chinese. Wendell is frequently invited to speak at conferences. He appeared in a CNBC business special and has been quoted in business publications, including
The Economist,
Business Week,
Investor’s Business Daily,
Wall Street Journal and
Fortune.
He has been an active member of various industry associations and professional organizations, including the Society for Information Management (SIM), the premier association for IT leaders. He has participated in SIM Chapter activities, served on SIM committees, and had an active role in various SIM events.
Dr. Jones has consulted to private and public-sector organizations worldwide, including the governments of China and Jordan. With a leading profile as a management practitioner and outsourcing thought leader, he has managed a number of large IT organizations, including global delivery of outsourcing services for Digital Equipment Corporation and Compaq Computer Corporation with 2,400 worldwide employees. He has received a number of industry awards and the military Legion of Merit and Bronze stars. He served in the military from second lieutenant to full colonel, including two combat tours in Vietnam, and is a graduate of the Industrial College of the Armed Forces and the US Army War College.
