CEO & Founder
Doculabs
James K. Watson, Jr., founded Doculabs on three simple principles: objective recommendations, analysis grounded by benchmark data, and a specialization in content-based applications. Under Watson’s leadership, Doculabs has established itself as the premier consultancy in the enterprise content management ( ECM) market, engaged by most of the Fortune 100 over its 13-year history.
Watson also serves in the role of executive sponsor or lead consultant on numerous Doculabs consulting engagements. He brings expertise to architecting enterprise strategies to address customer communications, compliance, and workplace collaboration., and has worked with many clients in the insurance and financial services industries to address their needs to lower transaction costs. He has also applied his expertise to create the industry’s only peer-group benchmarking service that examines the metrics associated with deploying and managing ECM systems on an enterprise level.
As a spokesman for Doculabs’ in-depth perspective on the industry, Watson leads Doculabs’ efforts in fulfilling speaking requests for numerous technology and business conferences. He also regularly provides articles or commentary on the industry’s key topics and issues in leading technology publications.
Prior to forming Doculabs in 1993, Watson held positions within the printing systems group at Xerox Corporation and the mainframe division of NCR Corporation.
Watson has served as a board member of the Electronic Document Systems Foundation (EDSF) and the Association of Information and Image Management (AIIM), and was the chair of the Emerging Technology Advisory Group (EMTAG). In 2000, he was recognized as one of Crain’s Chicago Business’ “40 Under 40,” highlighting his achievements in the Midwestern business community.
