Michael Thyken joined Select Comfort in July 2000. The Minneapolis-based company is best known as the manufacturer, marketer and retailer of the Sleep Number? bed, a revolutionary new mattress which uniquely allows owners to adjust the mattress’ firmness at the touch of a button to fit each individual’s personal preference. Select Comfort has enjoyed 30% sales increases for several years and twelve consecutive quarters of profitability.

Under Thyken’s leadership, the IS team has been rapidly implementing scalable and flexible systems to support Select Comfort’s rapid growth and expansion. Those systems support an integrated multi-channel sales model and a “build to order” lean manufacturing process. The company has been named to the prestigious CIO 100.

Prior to joining Select Comfort, Thyken enjoyed a successful career leading information technology projects and teams for Jostens, Target Stores and IBM. Thyken received his undergraduate degree from the University of St. Thomas in 1983 and his MBA from the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management in 1991.

Thyken currently serves as President of the Board of Directors of the University of St. Thomas Alumni Association. He is also active as a coach of several soccer teams. He lives in Eden Prairie with his wife and two children.
