Mr. Payden has over 34 years experience in the information technology industry including 20 years of executive leadership.
As the State of Minnesota's first CIO, Payden is currently responsible for leadership and oversight of an enterprise-wide vision of information technology and telecommunications systems and for ensuring cost-effective and appropriate technology solutions across all units of state government. In addition, he coordinates the operations of the InterTechnologies Group, the state's electronic nerve center and provider of information technology services, the Office of Technology, which provides statewide leadership and policy direction for the implementation of electronic government services and manages North Star, the state's Internet portal.
Prior to his current position he served as Senior Vice President for the Pentair Tool Group and as Vice President/CIO for the Tennant Company. In these roles he led numerous information systems and business transformation efforts.
Mr. Payden graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of Minnesota Institute of Technology. He has an MBA from St. Thomas University and has completed additional executive studies at Harvard and leadership training from the Center for Creative Leadership.
