CIO
University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
Bruce Maas is the Chief Information Officer at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where he leads information technology strategic planning for the campus and is responsible for directing the central Division of University Information Technology Services (www.uits.uwm.edu). Bruce brings a strong background in financial and budget management, academic school/college administrative experience, and project management. He has served as the campus Budget Manager, Assistant Dean for Business Affairs for the School of Education, the School of Social Welfare, and the College of Health Sciences, and as a Deputy CIO. In addition, he served as the Project Manager for the PeopleSoft Student Administration implementation, successfully meeting all major milestones on time, within scope, and a half million dollars under budget. Presently, Bruce is leading the response to a campus wide IT Review intended to re-align IT services in support of the core mission of the university during a time in which the budget has been reduced and demand for services is increasing.
In 2005, Bruce began to partner with the CIO's at Milwaukee Public Schools and Milwaukee Area Technical College to collectively lease the 12 FCC EBS broadcast channels in Milwaukee administered by the three institutions. In December 2007, the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents signed a contract resulting in payments up front to each institution of $4.167 million and $660,000 per year, incremented 3 percent annually for 30 years. This was one of the largest financial settlements on a per channel basis of FCC channels in the country, providing UWM with funds for scholarships and support for research infrastructure, including high performance computing.
Bruce has a Masters degree in Administrative Leadership with undergraduate majors in Accounting and Management Information Systems.
