Dan Jarvis was on the front cover of Public CIO magazine as the CIO for Kansas City, Kansas. He is a member of Public Technologies Institute based in Washington D.C. and while he was the first CIO for the City and County of Denver, Colorado, he was the honored with the “In The Arena” award provided by the Center for Digital Government organization to “men and women that push the envelope and refuse to settle when faced with an opportunity to serve citizens”. Dan has been a speaker for Center for Digital Government, was an Elected Official in the City of Berea, Ohio, was a member of the “Welcome Home Browns” committee for the City of Cleveland, member of the State of Ohio’s Commuter Rail committee which looked at rail travel between Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio.
Dan started his career as a high school Mathematics/Computer Science teacher and Football/Track coach before moving into the private sector with Sherwin-Williams Paints based in Cleveland, Ohio. While working for Sherwin Williams for over a 9 year span, Dan became a two term elected City Council Representative for his home town of Berea, Ohio, which became the home of the Cleveland Browns training facility while Dan was on the council. He gathered additional experience as an IT executive for two smaller organizations before accepting the roll of Economic Development Director/Executive Assistant to the Mayor for the City of Berea, Ohio. Mayor White of Cleveland, Ohio recruited him to the City of Cleveland, Ohio as the first CIO for the City of Cleveland where Dan used his “Change Agent” skills to turn around a department that was in a dilapidated situation. After Mayor White’s retirement, Dan went on to become the first CIO for the City and County of Denver, Colorado and the first CIO for the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas.
Dan has been involved with government for 14 years and has an additional 14 years in the corporate world, which provides him with a wonderful balance point of view of Public/Private relationships.
During his career, Dan has been able to work in large organizations, small organizations, financially healthy organizations and financially handicapped organizations allowing for the acquiring of knowledge from both an elected and an appointed point of view giving him a thorough understanding of government operations.
