Carl Gambs has been Senior Vice President in charge of the Automation Division at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City and the District’s chief information officer since 2001. Prior to this assignment, he served as Branch Manager for the Bank’s Denver Branch for six years. He also served as Project Leader for the Federal Reserve System’s Century Date Change Project, responsible for ensuring that all of the Federal Reserve’s automated systems were able to operate properly in the year 2000.
Mr. Gambs joined the Bank as a financial economist in the Bank’s Research
Division in 1976. Since then, he has held positions in a number of areas at
the Bank and at the Federal Reserve System level. Past assignments include
serving as Vice President with responsibility for the Bank’s Accounting and
Business Development functions.
Prior to joining the Bank, he was on the faculty of Michigan State University
for seven years. He also has taught at the University of Missouri at Kansas
City and at Kansas University. He has written numerous articles for economic
journals and for the Economic Review of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City.
Mr. Gambs is a native of Iowa and earned a B.B.A. in economics at the University
of Iowa. He also holds an M.A. and a Ph.D. in economics from Yale University.
