Gail Farnsley
Visiting Professor, Computer & IT
Purdue University
Gail Farnsley joined Purdue as a Visiting Professor in April, 2008. In this role she is working with partners to develop programs to:
- encourage more women and underserved students to consider careers in technology,
- allow Purdue students to get broader global exposure through Study Abroad trips and global classroom experiences,
- increase the impact of technology on societal problems, with a current emphasis on economic development in Indiana.
In 2010 she took on the additional role of Director of the Statewide Technology location in Lafayette. This program offers Certificate and BS degrees designed with working adults in mind so that they can earn their degree while continuing to manage work and family responsibilities.
Prior to joining Purdue, Gail was VP of IT and CIO at Cummins, Inc. Before her appointment as CIO she worked in various IT roles, including an assignment in the UK where she led IT for Europe, Middle East, and Africa. Prior to Cummins, Gail spent nine years with Georgia-Pacific, worked as an Analyst at Emery Airfreight and began her career as a programmer at Public Service Indiana.
Gail has a BS in Computer Science from Bowling Green State University and an MBA from the Krannert School of Management, Purdue University. She is currently serving as Outreach Chair and Past-President of Women & Hi Tech, an Indianapolis-based professional development organization, is a founding member of the WITI (Women in Technology International) - Global Executive Network, Outreach Chair for the Indianapolis Chapter of Society for Information Management (SIM), and is a member of the Techpoint Board.
