Bill Olsen
Director of IT&T Infrastructure
Nevada  Energy 

William (Bill) Olsen has been actively engaged in all aspects of information technology working professionally in that field for more than 20 years.  Over his twenty two year career, Bill has worked as a programmer, systems programmer, Unix system administrator, server administrator, and network engineer before shifting into a managerial career track.  Bill’s various supervisory roles include Operating Systems Services Supervisor, Database Administration Supervisor, and Network Manager.  Currently Bill is serving as Director of Infrastructure Services in the IT&T department at NV Energy, a Fortune 1000 company previously known as Nevada Power Company and Sierra Pacific Power Company where he is the acknowledged technology expert.

Bill was also Director of Technology for the local start-up Video Wave Technology which had two profitable years prior to disbanding so the owners could pursue other opportunities.  He has also served as webmaster, primary graphics designer, and chief web programmer for a local martial arts studio from 2001 – 2004.

He is an expert in the industry and has been published in the industry trade journal MVS Update (published by Zephon, Issue 78, March 1993).  He has received various industry certifications including CCP, CSP, CNA, ACE, ITIL Foundation, and ITIL Intermediate.  He is currently actively pursuing the ITIL Expert certification.  He is an accomplished speaker having been awarded the Competent Toastmaster designation from Toastmasters International.  He was a featured keynote speaker at the 2004 Aprisma Worldwide User Conference.  Bill was also selected by GDS Publishing as one of the top 50 utility company leaders in the US and Canada and was invited to attend their Next Generation Utilities Conference in the Spring of 1998 where he was the only attendee to be featured on two separate discussion panels. 

Bill graduated Summa Cum Laude, with a Bachelor of Science Degree from DeVry Institute of Technology, now DeVry University, in 1988.  While at DeVry, he was voted by the faculty and students as the most outstanding student in his graduating class, he served as President of the local DPMA chapter, and as President of the DeVry chapter of Epsilon Delta Pi (the service fraternity for IT students).   Prior to pursing his degree in IT, Bill earned an Associate’s Degree majoring in Chemical Engineering from Dixie College (now Dixie State College of Utah).

External to the IT field, Bill is happily married with five children.  He has served as a member of the Board of Directors for a small non-denominational church.  He has also earned the 1st Degree Black Belt rank and is a certified instructor in Songahm Taekwondo.  He is an Eagle Scout and has served as Scoutmaster for over 4 years for a Henderson, NV based Boy Scout troop and was recognized in 2008 by the local district for his outstanding service in that capacity.  He is a founding member and the managing partner of WAOG Partners, a small real-estate investing partnership.
