Brad Barton
CIO
Kennecott Utah Copper
Brad Barton began his IT career as a translator on a project building an Internet Service Provider in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. He found himself obliged to take on more and more technical work, and became skilled at reading manuals while staring dumb-founded at various screens. Being thousands of miles away from help built within him an appreciation for the stability of Unix-based systems, so when he came back to Utah he worked as a Unix Systems Administrator for awhile before going to work for Kennecott Utah Copper as the official ornery old Unix Admin. During the past nine years with the Kennecott business unit and the Rio Tinto Shared Services environment, Brad has also been an ERP programmer, Six Sigma Black Belt, Applications Manager, Regional Operations Director (an acting role for which he had not auditioned), and currently as the CIO at Kennecott Utah Copper, a major copper business unit in the Rio Tinto Group. Brad also has a beautiful wife, four young children and a scout troop.
